David M. Donelson, M.D.

Dr. David Donelson has been Medical Director of Donelson Eye Associates for the past 30 years specializing in cataract, laser and refractive surgery.  He has been in the forefront of adapting new ocular surgical technologies and making them available to his patients.  He has performed over 24,000 cataract surgeries and over 6000 LASIK procedures. More than 100 doctors have recommended their family members or themselves to Dr. Donelson for their eye surgery.

Dr. Donelson attended the University of South Carolina School of Medicine where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree.  He did his internship in Internal Medicine at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina followed by his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis where he served as chief resident.

Dr. Donelson is board certified in general ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  He is also a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the International Society of Refractive Surgery and the South Carolina Society of Ophthalmology.  He has served as Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology for both Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital and Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center. 

Dr. Donelson devotes the majority of his medical practice to combining advanced cataract surgery with the latest technology in intraocular implants (IOLs) including the new Lifestyle implants, such as the ReSTOR and Crystalens, which provides a full range of vision and spectacle freedom.

Aside from ophthalmology, Dr. Donelson enjoys endurance sports such as cycling and running and has completed several triathlons.  He also enjoys golf and is a certified SCUBA diver and has dived throughout the Caribbean, Hawaii and Bermuda.

Dr. Donelson and his wife, Susan, have lived in the Greenville area over 25 years.

Donelson Eye Associates is a current member of the Greenville, South Carolina Chamber of Commerence and has held memebership in this organization since 2010.
